Major General Shawn Manke, Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard, recently hosted a reception honoring Ambassador Mohamed Siad Douale of Djibouti and Military Attaché Col. Ali Homoud. This event celebrated Djibouti and Minnesota’s strong and enduring relationship, highlighting shared interests and reinforcing diplomatic and military collaboration.
The reception also underscored an educational initiative through the involvement of Books For Africa, the largest distributor of books to African nations. This nonprofit organization marked the occasion by coordinating a shipment of books to Djibouti, recognizing the ambassador’s contributions, and reaffirming Minnesota’s commitment to supporting educational resources abroad.
The Minnesota Institute of Horn of Africa Studies played a pivotal role throughout the ambassador’s visit, fostering dialogue and building connections that bridged communities. Ambassador Douale also attended the 2024 Minnesota East Africa Banquet, where he delivered an inspiring speech. His remarks emphasized the importance of cross-cultural ties, economic partnerships, and educational cooperation, strengthening bonds across diplomatic, cultural, and economic fronts.
In addition to advancing cross-cultural ties, the gathering promoted trade and investment opportunities between Djibouti and Minnesota, underscoring economic growth and partnership potential. Djibouti, strategically located in the Horn of Africa, is home to Africa’s only permanent U.S. military base, further emphasizing its critical role in regional stability and U.S.-Africa relations.
